Getting the best out of T2K and NOvA

We explore the combined physics potential of T2K and NOvA in light of the moderately large measured value of theta13. For sin^2 2*theta13 = 0.1, which is close to the best fit value, a 90% C.L. evidence for the hierarchy can be obtained only for the combinations (Normal hierarchy, -170 <= deltaCP <= 0) and (Inverted hierarchy, 0 <= deltaCP <= 170), with the currently planned runs of NOvA and T2K. However, the hierarchy can essentially be determined for any value of deltaCP, if the statistics of NOvA are increased by 50% and those of T2K are doubled. Such an increase will also give an allowed region of deltaCP around its true value, except for the CP conserving cases deltaCP = 0 or 180. We demonstrate that any measurement of deltaCP is not possible without first determining hierarchy. We find that comparable data from a shorter baseline (L ~ 130 km) experiment will not lead to any significant improvement.Comment: Version published in Phys. Rev.

Epic Woman Stepping into Reality: Depiction of Draupadi with a Feminist Lens with Reference to Three Indian Novels

Lower status of women is a stain on any society. The problem is becoming glaring in India in the wake of atrocities caused against women ‘from womb to tomb’. Even in this twenty first century, the impact of manuvadi ideology is getting evidently felt. ‘A thinking woman spoils everything’ is still the mindset. Maladies like honour killing, bride burning are still gloating over the security of women in the wake of the internalized mindset of patriarchal dictum, viz. ‘A woman does not deserve any freedom’ (Na stri swatantryam arhati). Since time immemorial, she was always taken for granted though she had never remained silent. The depiction of Draupadi in various writings underscores woman’s protest against male dichotomy and her refusal to live by disabling definitions that mark women as inferior

Fervour for Femocracy Reflected in the Works of George Bernard Shaw: A Study of His Plays with Reference to the Synergising Feminist and Democratic Ideologies

It is the truth universally acknowledged that conventionality is not morality. All that is accepted may not be absolute every time but could just be a time bound adjustment to make the ‘system’ work in itself at a particular period. But as time changes, the laws, rules, or socio- economic codes which permeated one particular era, may stand obsolete for another phase of time; the blow to it always comes in the form of reaction expecting one to retrospect over the existing dichotomy as well as change in the system to meet the changing needs of time. Some may take a safer stance by operating within the system to make it work in itself as well as to keep themselves floating while some may abrogate the norms to change the foundations and re- construct the whole order to adapt to the new surroundings. George Bernard Shaw (26th July 1856-2nd November, 1950) belongs to the second band of reactionists, who will not mind bearing wrath of socio- Cultural temper to unveil hard core reality. A non- conformist ‘naughty nineties' writer of partly Victorian era and basically early twentieth century created a new vista through his ‘unpleasant’ plays by focusing the basis of society in his attempt “ to take literatures seriously,” the fact pinpointed by his later successor T. S. Eliot; as a committed dramatist, he ‘strip (ped) the ragged follies of the time. Naked, as at their birth and with a whip of steel, print (ed) wounding lashes in the iron ribs.’ If, for him, ‘every great truth commences with blasphemy,’ Shaw's blatant attack did not spare anything and anyone right from slum landlordism, quackery, false notions of Valour, prostitution, idealization of feminity and all. In his propagandist mission to expose all evils, His fervour for ‘femocracy’ is grabbing attention even in the twenty first century and makes him win unequivocally, the label of ‘ Male feminist’ along with being an ‘odd-man- out' to his own milieu. The term, a geological compounding of ‘ female’ and ‘ cracy' and so ‘women’s rule’s has been interchangeably used for women Empowerment and women’s era has been a buzzword in intellectual as well as ‘socialete' circle in today’s time. Shaw, in his fierce endeavour to withdraw women from the stock image of ‘angel in the house’, undoubtedly becomes the recipient of ‘femocrat' tag

Hybrid Spectrum Sensing Method for Cognitive Radio

Get PDF
With exponential rise in the internet applications and wireless communications, higher and efficient data transfer rates are required. Hence proper and effective spectrum is the need of the hour, As spectrum demand increases there are limited number of bands available to send and receive the data. Optimizing the use of these bands efficiently is one of the tedious tasks. Various techniques are used to send the data at same time, but for that we have to know which bands are free before sending the data. For this purpose various spectrum sensing approaches came with variety of solutions. In this paper the sensing problem is tackled with the use of hybrid spectrum sensing method, This new networking paradox uses the Centralized concept of spectrum sensing and creates one of the most trusted spectrums sensing mechanism. This proposed technique is simulated using MATLAB software. This paper also provides comparative study of various spectrum sensing methodologie

The role of phospholipid as a solubility- and permeability-enhancing excipient for the improved delivery of the bioactive phytoconstituents of Bacopa monnieri

Get PDF
In an attempt to improve the solubility and permeability of Standardized Bacopa Extract (SBE), a complexation approach based on phospholipid was employed. A solvent evaporation method was used to prepare the SBE-phospholipid complex (Bacopa Naturosome, BN). The formulation and process variables were optimized using a central-composite design. The formation of BN was confirmed by photomicroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), and Powder X-ray Diffraction (PXRD). The saturation solubility, the in-vitro dissolution, and the ex-vivo permeability studies were used for the functional evaluation of the prepared complex. BN exhibited a significantly higher aqueous solubility compared to the pure SBE (20-fold), or the physical mixture of SBE and the phospholipid (13-fold). Similarly, the in-vitro dissolution revealed a significantly higher efficiency of the prepared complex (BN) in releasing the SBE (\u3e 97%) in comparison to the pure SCE (~ 42%), or the physical mixture (~ 47%). The ex-vivo permeation studies showed that the prepared BN significantly improved the permeation of SBE (\u3e 90%), compared to the pure SBE (~ 21%), or the physical mixture (~ 24%). Drug-phospholipid complexation may thus be a promising strategy for solubility enhancement of bioactive phytoconstituents

Background: Infection is a major cause of morbidity and mortality among burn patients. The worldwide emergence of antimicrobial resistance among a wide variety of burn wound pathogens, particularly nosocomial isolates, limits the available therapeutic options for effective treatment of burn wound infections. The study was conducted in the department of Microbiology, Dr. S.C.G.M.C, Nanded, Maharashtra, India to determine aerobic bacterial isolates from burn wound swabs and describe their antibiogram. Methods: Two wound swabs were taken from 570 patients, cultured aerobically. The isolates were identified by standard microbiological methods and antibiotic sensitivity pattern was determined. Results: Among 570 patients, 434 (76.14%) were female and 136 (23.85%) were male. Out of the total swabs collected, 548 (96.14%) were culture positive and 36 (6.56%) were having 2 isolates. Pseudomonas aeruginosa (34.93%) was the commonest isolate followed by Staphylococcus aureus (22.77%), Klebsiella pneumoniae (13.87%), Escherichia coli (13.01%) and Coagulase negative staphylococcus (11.31%). Incidence of MRSA was 59.39% and ESBL producers were 61.46 %. Gram positive isolates were 100% sensitive to Vancomycin, Linezolid and Gram negative organisms to Imipenem. Conclusions: Routine periodic sampling of burn wounds would facilitate the selection of appropriate empirical therapy and reduce the incidence of multidrug resistant infections among burn patients
